The course located next to our villa, Highlands Reserve Golf Course measures 6,673 yards and carries a course/slope rating of 72.1/118. The golds play 6,010 yards at 68.8/115, and the jades play 4,875 yards at 67.4/107. The course was built by Architect Michael Dasher in 1998 and several of his holes are worthy of individual mention. To begin is number 2, a downhill, 398-yard, dogleg left appropriately called "High Point." From the tee, you can witness the huge increase in the area's entire 120-foot elevation. Pull out the driver and you might even experience a bit of altitude sickness, as a nasty waste area to the left eagerly accepts any shots short of centre on this right-to-left sloping fairway. Other features of Highlands Reserve Golf Course include unrestricted walking, a junior's program and several annual Amateur Playing Tour and Senior Moonlight and Pro-am events. It does not, however, offer an opulent clubhouse, grand entrance or private membership.

Beaches

Daytona Beach began as a place for speed. Between 1902 and 1935, no less than 13 land auto racing records were set on Daytona's 23 miles of hard, flat beach, which is up to 500 feet wide at some points. Today, beach drivers must observe a sedate 10-mile per hour speed limit, while the racing cars can be seen inland at Daytona International Speedway. Hotels line the shoreline along Daytona's 10 miles of beaches, giving vacationers their own small slice of paradise.
